All study programs require a Secondary School diploma or equivalent. Other prerequisites may also be required in certain programs. For more information regarding equivalences please communicate with Mérici International.
All students must send their complete CAQ application file to the Foreign Students Service in Montréal, including all the supporting documents and required fees. Admission
Upon reception of your documents, the Admissions Committee will review your application and render a decision of acceptance in approximately ten days. Your Certificat d’acceptation du Québec (CAQ) will be forwarded to the Québec Immigration Service office along with your payment. The Québec Immigration Service office will then forward an acceptance confirmation directly to the Canadian Embassy in your country.
Mérici’s Admissions Services will send you two copies of the Official Letter of Acceptance at Mérici (one for the Canadian Embassy and the other for you) and the Academic Services contract indicating the tuition fees to be payed. After completing these documents, please return them along with a certified cheque or money order to Mérici International to cover the following fees:
- The first payment of tuition fees
- A payment for reservation of accomodations (if required)
Mérici reserves the right to refuse any student whose academic history or personal qualifications are considered unsatisfactory to pursue studies in one of its programs. In this circumstance, the admission and CAQ fees will be reimbursed.
Obtaining a Student Visa
As soon as you receive your Official Letter of Acceptance from Mérici, you will have to request a student visa from the Canadian Embassy in your country. The Canadian Embassy will require the following documents:
- Certificat d’acceptation du Québec (CAQ)
- the Official Letter of Acceptance at Mérici
- Proof that you have sufficient funds to cover your college and support fees (the Immigration Service estimates the support fees at a minimum of C$11 000 per year)
- A valid passport
- Two passport photos
- Proof that you are able to transfer funds
- Proof of good reputation (letter of reference, etc.)
- A medical certificate
For more information, please see the Citizenship and Immigration Canada website at : http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/index.asp. The CAQ and visa application process from the Canadian Embassy may take more than two months. We therefore suggest you start this process as soon as possible. A minimum of three months before the beginning of classes is recommended. Please allow an additional two weeks if a medical exam is required.
Health and Hospitalization Insurance
Under a regulation by the Québec Immigration Ministry, foreign students who want to register in a study program in Québec are required to subscribe to medical and hospital insurance for the duration of their stay.
Suscribing to this insurance is mandatory for all eligible international students, except for students entitled to the health insurance of the province of Québec and for those becoming permanent residents of Canada during their studies.
However, all eligible international students are exempted from suscribing to the insurance, as long as they show proof of subscription to the Québec Health Insurance in accordance with the agreement of reciprocity regarding Health and Hospitalization Insurance which has been established between the government of Québec and some countries ( Denmark, France, Greece, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal and Sweden).
Your insurance will come into effect on the first day of the month prior to the beginning of your first semester or on the day on which you’ll arrive in Canada, if this date is subsequent.
Upon your arrival, you will be given your insurance card, a reimbursement card for prescription medicine, a booklet containing more information about your medical coverage, as well as a payment form.
The cost of the insurance is C$936 for one year. This fee will automatically be added to your tuition fees and will be payable according to the terms determined by Mérici.
Reimbursement Policy
Non-Refundable Fees
Please note that the following fees are not refundable: registration fees, admission fees as well as application fees for the Certificat d’acceptation du Québec (CAQ).

Mérici reserves the right to invoice a student a penalty of C$1500 in cases where the latter cancels his or her Academic Services contract before or after the beginning of classes. In cases where the aforementioned contract is cancelled after classes have begun, the student will also be invoiced for the courses he or she followed (Ref.: Québec private teaching Bill).
Visa Refusal
If your visa application is denied, your tuition fees installment will be fully refunded by Mérici upon proof of refusal, except for the non-refundable fees mentioned above.
